“It was supposed to be a hotel, it’s actually my experience at Claridge’s. I love when I see these exquisite creatures get out of the elevator, and some of them would be maids, hookers, mistresses, wives, criminals…
I’ve been in plenty of hotels in plenty of countries at this point, and it’s very interesting to see who leaves at what time of day, and what they’re wearing the day after.”

BlackBerry maker Research In Motion this morning announced that it will launch its PlayBook tablet computer with 7digital‘s music store pre-installed.
The music store will come installed on the tablet at its launch in the United States and Canada, with further international roll out in 2011, the companies said.
London-based 7digital, which is half owned by HMV Group, operates a digital music marketplace that boasts some 13 million tracks. Users can browse, preview and purchase tracks from its vast, fully licensed music catalogue.
In essence, RIM is arming itself with a music store in its attack against Apple and its iPad, which of course operates the wildly successful iTunes store for music purchasing and more.
Last October, 7digital had already announced the launch of its MP3 Music Store application for BlackBerry smartphones, and also struck a deal with Samsung for its GALAXY Tab.
The company says prices for PlayBook users will match the prices on 7digital.com, with individual tracks and albums priced in a customer’s local currency.

The Seychelles, the name alone conjures up images of hidden treasure and tropical paradise. The myths still exist; are they just the jewel-like scattered remnants of a forgotten continent, or simply the original ‘Garden of Eden’, and what arcane mysteries are locked inside of those 650 million year old rocks. Whatever, one thing is certain, you will never find such a unique paradise anywhere else on Earth.

Only a week after Galliano’s shocking departure from Christian Dior, the fashion world is once again rocked to its core with devastating news. Minutes after Balmain’s Fall 2011 Collection came to a close, the crowd began looking at each other confused as they waited-much more than usual- for designer, Christophe Decarnin, to come out and give his bow. Decarnin was a no-show-and quickly enough the fashion industry learned that Balmain’s designer has reportedly been undergoing treatment for either depression or exhaustion at a mental hospital since January. The collection was designed by Melanie Ward (who replaced Emanuelle Alt after the latter was named EIC of Paris Vogue), who was supposedly collaborating with Decarnin on this Fall collection but ended up designing the whole line without Balmain’s main man.
Decarnin’s absence from Balmain’s Fall 2011 collection is evident by the lack of shredded denim and studs. Instead, Ward’s influence, shows up in a collection that is more polished-including structured leather blazers, polished trousers, and streamlined blouses, but still maintains its punk with the help of a couple of sliced tanks, metallic gold, black, silver and blue, and laced up boots. And even though Balmain’s new polished-rocker girl is more grown up, she is still ready to paint the town red in her gem-encrusted minidresses, embellished mini-skirts, shimmery jumpsuits and golden trench-coats.
Ward’s influence also accounts for the loosened-up silhouettes, deeply cuffed and cropped pants, as well as for the bib-front tuxedo shirts. Less embroidered sparkle, more polish, and with the same amount of power, under Ward’s direction, Balmain’s new girl is refreshing and strong. While time and specifically, seasons, will only tell whether Ward can fully replace Decarnin-this collection is definitely a start.

“I wanted to take things that were personal to me and extend it into a retail environment,” says Alexander Wang, who showed editors around his brand-new Soho, N.Y., boutique—his first stand-alone store, located in the airy Grand St. space formerly inhabited by Yohji Yamamoto.
“I have a lot of goat-fur-covered furniture in my office, so we extended that idea to the fox-fur hammock,” pointing out the gorgeous glossy black fur hammock that hangs from the ceiling into the center of the store. “There’s a sense of irony—we like things to feel very sexual, but also a little comical to take the formality out.”

Iris van Herpen stands for a reciprocity between craftsmanship and innovation in technique and materials.
Van Herpen forces fashion to the extreme contradiction between beauty and regeneration. It is her unique way to reevaluate reality and to express and underline individuality.
The essence of van Herpen is expressing the character and emotions of an unique woman and to extend the shape of the feminine body in detail. She mixes craftsmanship- using old and forgotten techniques- with innovation and materials inspired on the world to come.
“For me fashion is an expression of art that is very close related to me and to my body. I see it as my expression of identity combined with desire, moods and cultural setting.
In all my work I try to make clear that fashion is an artistic expression, showing and wearing art, and not just a functional and devoid of content or commercial tool. With my work I intend to show that fashion can certainly have an added value to the world, that it is timeless and that its consumption can be less important then its beginning. Wearing clothing can create a very exciting and imperative form of self-expression. ‘Form follows function’ is not a slogan with which I concur. On the contrary, I find that forms complement and change the body and thus the emotion. Movement, so essential to and in the body, is just as important in my work. By bringing form, structure and materials together in a new manner, I try to suggest and realize optimal tension and movement.”
BIOGRAPHY
Iris van Herpen (born 1984 Wamel, The Netherlands) started her own label Iris van Herpen in 2007. She studied Fashion Design at ARTEZ (Arnhem) and did internships at Alexander McQueen in London and Claudy Jongstra in Amsterdam.

The Tree hotel, located in harads, Sweden, about 60km south of the Arctic Circle, opened in the summer of 2010. The hotel was initially envisaged by founder Kent Lindvall and his wife and consists of six rooms: the Cabin, the Blue Cone, the Bird’s Nest and the Mirrorcube, opened last July, and the UFO and the Room with A View, opened last October.
The Tree hotel has several special reasons for you to visit.
First, Tree hotel is special because it is a tree house. Under the design concept where all rooms are put up on trees, the six rooms are actually elevated on trees.
Second, the hotel is situated close to the Artic Circle where the land is not covered with snow for only three to four months in a year. Ice hotel is located within the Arctic Circle.
Third, the six rooms are designed by five different architects. This is similar to the approach taken by the unique FOX Hotel in Copenhagen, Denmark, where all the rooms were also designed by different designers with different concepts.
The five designers are Sandell & Sandberg, AB (interior group AB), Marten Cyrene, Inrednings Gruppen, Tham & Videgard Architects.

The new specification, announced by Aston Martin prior to a likely debut at the Geneva Motor Show, is available in both Coupé and Roadster versions. Maximum engine power is now 430bhp at 7300rpm, with torque of 490Nm peaking at 5000rpm.
No performance figures have been released by the Gaydon factory, but the combination of more power and torque, coupled with the closer-ratio, seven-speed gearbox and lowered (4.182:1) final drive should sharpen things up considerably.
The suspension features all-new springs and dampers, matched to suit the more performance-focused mien of the V8 Vantage S. The steering ratio has also been changed: to 15:1, instead of the standard car’s 17:1, while wider rear rims will help the bespoke Bridgestone tyres obtain maximum traction.
Other mechanical changes include larger diameter front brake discs with new six-piston calipers, Hydraulic Brake Assist (‘HBA’, which provides assistance in emergency braking) and Hill Start Assist (‘HSA’, a way of holding the car on slopes).
The ‘Sport’ button gives the driver the option of the fastest possible changes coupled with the most aggressive throttle mapping. It makes the new-for-the-car exhaust louder, too.
Visually, the V8 Vantage S carries a horizontal splitter under the enlarged lower front grille, a spoiler on the bootlid, new 19in ‘V’-pattern alloy wheels, and side-sills echoing those of the GT4 racing cars.
Commenting proudly on the latest Aston Martin, the company’s CEO, Dr Ulrich Bez, said: “The Vantage S epitomises every attribute of the V8 Vantage and pushes the driver experience beyond what we have offered before.
“It combines dynamic exhilaration with all the charming finesse, beauty and practicality already associated with the Vantage range.”
